And baby makes four
She is 44 hours old now, dark hair, scrunched up face and eyes that have barely opened long enough to see me. We were fully expecting a boy. Hadn't even discussed girl names, so when we lifted her off my chest to finally answer the 9 month long question of the sex of this baby...and there it wasn't. No penis. We were so so so shocked.
Now it will be boys against girls in our house...hee hee.
Vin seems a little confused but is very loving to her. He is a wild maniac most of the day, dancing, singing, running his trucks or trains around, doing crazy donkey kicks on the bed, bashing his head here and there. But when he sees her, he slows down, his voice sweetens, he says 'Baby' and he gently 'beeps' her nose, strokes her head and yesterday, with no prompting from us, he lifted her tiny little hand and kissed it.
Vin's entries into this blog have been halted these past months, and so much has happened. He is talking up a storm and almost sounds like a hardened sailor, unless you really know what he is saying. His 'frog' sounds exactly like 'f**k' and his 'sit' comes out 'sh*t'. We immediately follow his unintentional curses with the appropriate pronunciation, more to save face in public than to correct him.
Yesterday I was reading him his books in bed before bedtime and I gathered him in my arms to move him to a more comfortable pillow placement in the center of the bed, and all of a sudden my baby boy seemed like a huge, strapping, boy person. After holding and carrying and nursing Sisi, he has grown up overnight, in my eyes. But I still remember so vividly holding him in my lap when he was 44 hours old and naming him 'Pot Roast' because that is what he looked like to me. A chunky, delicious morsel. I see Sisi and remember Vinny.
They don't look anything alike to me at this stage, but the warm lovely thoughts and feelings about this little girl are supported by all the warm and lovely thoughts and feelings I had just 19 months ago when we were going through all of this the first time with Vin.
He has been such a delight for us, it makes this time around even sweeter because there is none of the fear, Vinny has left only happiness in his wake. Sisi is a very lucky little sister.
