Back in the cave?

I guess I was not great at coming out of the cave. I have been keeping up with photos of our lives, but until my computer gets here, it will remain quite a chore to get them off of my camera and onto the blog.

Since I last wrote, we have enjoyed some great lazy days around here. I will detail them for you in the next few posts.

On January 31st, I slept in and missed my 4th physiotherapy appointment with Nadine. This broke my heart and kicked me in the butt to get more organized with my time and schedule.

Feb 1st, Vin and I walked to the UN and I went to yoga. Our baby transfer works like this, I pack up everything he will need for about 3 hours, pack myself up for a winter walk, pack yoga clothes, pack a snack, fill my camelback with enough water for the walk, pack V in his snow suit, remember his binky, burp rag, two hats, emergency formula with clean bottle and instructions, and emergency clothing in case he soaks through what he is wearing. Remember house keys, ubahn pass (in case of emergency), UN badge, ID, ipod, earwarmers, and phone and strategically place them around my body because I can't carry or access a purse very easily while carrying a baby and a backpack.

In the last moments, I feed Vin so that he will last the hour it takes to walk to the UN, I put a fresh diaper on him so that he won't be swimming in little boy pee when I get there. I then put on my winter coat, then strap on Vinny, in either the sleepy wrap or baby bjorn, then I strap on my backpack and out the door we go.

Vin usually needs to calm down after getting his hat put on (not his favorite) and sometimes he sleeps, sometimes he watches the world and sometimes he hates everything about the walk.

When we get close to the UN, I call Andi and have him head down to the front gate, where we meet him and we all get in line to register for a visitor badge for me. Then we all three head inside and go to the changing room. I then feed Vin one last bit to help him last the hour I will be away, and then strap Andi into the sleepy wrap or baby bjorn, slip Vin inside and they are off to his office and I am off to change into my yoga clothes and on to class.

We meet again after class and I go to a table and feed him again while Andi goes and gets our lunches, and then we share baby duty while the other person eats their lunch. Often he is so good, that I can just balance him on my knee while Andi and I eat at the same time. That is pretty great.

Then we are off to Andi's office where V gets a new diaper, maybe another feeding, and then I strap him on, strap the backpack on, and then we are off to either walk home again, or most likely to take the Ubahn back.

It is really great to get some yoga in, and it is especially great that I get free 'babysitting' with Andi there to take the boy. Sometimes, all the prep work seems like a lot to go through just for some yoga :) The warm weather months are very welcome and will cut down on the prep time, I am sure!

  1. While it is a lot of prep work to get everything ready, it is also true that most things are already partially ready to go. So most of the time, it's just a few packages to grab. Except for binky, that one is always floating somewhere else and usually we spend 5 minutes looking just for that.
